Not Mama’s homemade applesauce, but at least there was no added sugar.

He’s been so anxious to try food. His eyes follow our forks as we eat, and the past few days he’s been plopping his hand in my plate! Both of our boys seem(ed) to be interested in food way before the recommended 6 month start date, so we just follow their cues and feed them when it seems like they can handle it.

We’re happy to report the baby did indeed enjoy his applesauce, although he may have enjoyed it a little too much. A fair bit came back up!

But that’s okay. He’s got a whole lifetime to figure out this eating thing

Today was a rather momentous day for the baby!

First there was the sitting up. Not really sitting up, but almost! When we’re sitting on the floor playing with the Boo, I usually prop the baby up on my feet or legs and he leans back against me. Today he was sitting bolt upright, and I could let go for a few seconds and he was sitting up! But then he’d pitch forwards or sideways. But still! Exciting.

Second was bathtime! My goodness, this boy is a water baby! Last time I gave him a bath he kicked around a bit, but it didn’t look on purpose. Today, though, the child was kicking up a storm. He was also sitting up (again!) and just kick, kick, kicking away at the water. His face was so very animated, he was waving his arms around, and splashing water everywhere! I hope to catch it on video this weekend because it was too precious. I let him play with the water until it started to get cold, and even then he was kicking until he was entirely out of the water. He loved it!

Third was jumping on the bed with the Boo. Actually I was quite proud of Boo because the baby was lying on the bed, and Boo asked me to move the baby so he could bounce on the bed. Wasn’t that considerate? So Boo started bouncing around and I had the baby pretend jumping, if you will, on the bed as well — and he was practically howling with laughter! Both boys looked like they were having so much fun, it was so cute!

I love watching the boys interact, right now they really adore each other.

We discovered “bath crayons” thanks to a Christmas gift from Nanny and Grandad, and the Boo has played with them (and their successors) pretty much constantly ever since. Mostly he draws lines around the tub, or colors in the picture that came in the package, but the other day he drew this:

Well, I did the name, but he drew everything else. It looks like a hodgepodge of lines, but really it’s a map of train tracks.

This is extraordinary because:

Usually the Boo makes you do train tracks properly — two horizontal lines with perpendicular lines between. Since he’s gotten interested in maps he’s willing accept single lines as a visual indicator of train tracks.

He did different colors on purpose. He sat there telling me that this train track goes this way, and that train track goes that way, and they cross each other here, and you go that way to get back to here, etc. etc. Pretty cool! I hadn’t heard him explain how train tracks really worked before.

I love watching him mature, seeing how his interests change, and listening to his explanations. Kids can be really great sometimes

He rode a small but rather speedy roller coaster, a pirate ship that went way too high in my opinion, space ships that went up and down in a circle, bumper cars, and some other little car rides. He eschewed the carousel in favor of doing the planes and the roller coaster again.

We may have a dare devil on our hands. Hopefully some pictures will be uploaded soon!

The Boo does not have particularly sophisticated tastes. He won’t eat quiche or pastry or even ice cream with “stuff” in it.

However. The other day we happened across a frozen yogurt place that was giving out free samples. We tries some, we liked it, we decided to buy some. There were only two flavors available (it was healthy frozen yogurt): Plain, or green tea.

My choice: Plain yogurt with blackberries and dark chocolate chips.

Boo’s choice: Green tea with dark chocolate chips.

The ensuing conversation:

Me: Boo, are you sure you want the green one?

Boo: Yes. Want green.

Me: Are you sure?

Boo: Yes.

Me: Requests sample of green yogurt. Do you like it?

Boo: Yes.

Me: Are you sure? (Totally skeptical here as I don’t like it at all.)

Boo: Yes. Want green ice cream. With chocolate.

Me: Ooooookaaaaaay. Orders frozen yogurt.

We receive our yogurts and start eating.

Boo: Yuck.

Me: Huge exasperated sigh. Too bad.

Boo: Eating frozen yogurt. Yummy!

=====

He finished the whole thing! Green tea frozen yogurt with dark chocolate. I wouldn’t have guessed in a million years he’d like that. Goes to show you never can tell with this one!

Nathan tries to show him things but the baby just isn’t interested right now! He’s getting there though.. in the last few days Levi has been leaning forward eagerly when watching something that catches his interest.

Soon the boys will be playing and Nathan can push Levi in a big swing at the park!

The Boo’s little couch fits in it perfectly. The first time we put it together, we had it facing the television so he sat in his little “house” on his little couch watching a movie. Very cute.

Unfortunately we don’t have a whole lot of room for it, but fortunately it packs away into a bag which we can stash somewhere, so that’s good. It attaches with magnets so it’s very easy to put together.. I fully expect the Boo could put it together himself if he was so inclined (although he’s still requesting help at this point).

It was generously given to us completely free after a friend’s children had outgrown it, and I hope to have quite a few years fun with it! Of course I still have plans to make a canvas cover for our table that can be decorated as a space ship, but until that happens, the fort will definitely do. Yay!

The lad collapsed asleep yesterday at 5:30pm. This is usually not a good thing — he’s really hard to wake up, is super grumpy, and when he IS ready to wake up he won’t go to bed for ages!

However once in a blue moon he’ll fall asleep in the afternoon — and stay that way. He slept until we got him ready for bed when we went to bed, was awake for the brushing of teeth and the reading of books, then went back to sleep. Until 7:30 this morning. That’s 14 hours! The child slept for 14 hours!

Either he’s growing, he’s just been lacking sleep lately (due to waking up earlier and going to bed too late probably), or he’s sick. I hope he’s not sick! That would be bad timing.
