Carrie and Nathan

Carrie went in Wednesday night, the 19th, to be induced.
We had
a relatively easy Thursday, mainly just uncomfortable with
all
the wires, monitors and lack of food, but not a lot was
happening.
Carrie dilated to 2cm then stayed that way the rest of the
day.
They bumped it up a notch and broke her water on Friday
morning.
Then she had an extremely hellish 4 hours or so, though
she was
moving along steadily (1cm an hour, which was the
target).

At 6cm, she had an epidural and it turned out to be a
very good
choice as it sped things along nicely (She was off Lovenox
long
enough at this point for the initial danger to have
subsided).
She was fully dilated (10 cm) a couple of hours later, and
onto
pushing. Again it was back to slow and steady; with each
push
he moved a bit closer, but he had a long way to go (from
zero-station)
and was inching along. After much work, he crowned (5
seconds
after the doctor had left the room) and everyone leapt
into action.

Hen with NathanNathan
leapt first though and was caught by a doctor
still having
her scrubs tied. A baby cry and he was out;
immediately
showing them what he thought of the careful plans to check
him
out before he was actually pulled out. He was supposed to
be checked
out because he had meconium in his amniotic fluid, which
means
he had a bowel movement in utero. This can be dangerous
but in
our case Nathan did just fine. He was born with lots of
hair,
a good pair of lungs though thankfully he’s not a bawler
yet.
He quietens up nicely with a bit of rocking. He weighed 9
pounds
2 ounces and measured 20 inches and a quarter long. He has
dark
hair, dark eyes and a sweet disposition.
