I done a poop!

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

Boo’s official first sentence: I’ve done a poop! Although it sounded more like ‘I’ and ‘boop’… but anyway! This morning Nathan was playing in his room while H and I were being lazy and lying around in bed, and he comes to his the doorway between our rooms and says “I’ve done a poop!”

“Really?” we said. “You’ve pooped?”

So we check him out and indeed there is much poop to be had. But more importantly… first sentence! And it involved poop! H is very proud ;)

Success!

Recently Boo has become rather obsessed with the toilet. Well today he PEED IN THE TOILET. Hurrah! It was actually really funny..

For a while now he’ll indicate that he’d like to sit on the toilet (we have a little insert thingy that he uses so he doesn’t fall in!) but he’ll sit there for like 2 seconds before he rips off some toilet paper, throws it in, wants down, and then flushes. He will repeat this if you let him. Finally had to tell him no flushing unless there’s pee or poop in there!

Anyway, today he started off as usual, but when I took off his shorts and diaper, he PEED ON THE FLOOR! Oops! Fortunately we have this book that he loves so I explained how he peed on the floor like Joe does in the book and how it’s supposed to go IN the potty, like how Joe does!

So, he hopped up on the potty, ripped off some toilet paper, wiped himself a few times, then he peed again! IN THE TOILET! We were both very excited! He then peed like 3 more times. So proud of himself!

So there you go! The boy’s first official peeing in a toilet. Let’s hope there’s a lifelong future of this for him! As for me… I’ll be REALLY excited when the poop goes in there too ;)

Elmo and Byebye

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Boo’s newest word is Byebye and Hi! He’ll close the (half torn off) screen door to the porch, wave and say Byebye! Then he’ll walk a few paces, come back, wave and say Hi! Too cute.

But then this morning, I flipped on Sesame Street while we were eating our morning yogurt, and Elmo’s World was on. Nathan points at the TV and says Elmo. In surprise, I said, who is that? He said, Elmo! I guess it is a particularly easy name for toddlers, but still. Cool!

Once Upon a Potty

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Boo has a new favorite book: . He’s suddenly quite fascinated by it. We actually procured it several weeks ago, but now? He wants it read over and over and over.

His Dad reads it best, shorting the name to Joe and cutting out extraneous pieces of the story as Boo has the attention span of a goldfish. He thinks it’s very funny when the Poop lands outside the potty. He thinks it’s very funny when the poop lands INSIDE the potty, woohoo! He asks to sit on the big toilet, but nothing happens quite yet. But, we have learned, that means something will happen quite soon.

The boy is getting it! Good thing because toddler poop? Gross.

Nathan: World Traveller

Monday, July 17th, 2006

We are back from our travels abroad and Nathani s officially a world traveller extraordinaire! It would be hard to summarize the trip succinctly, but I will say this:

The boy loves the ocean and has a new fascination with trains.

Really, it was a great trip. Nathan took to his family members like jam to toast, and had a really good time. He took walks on the beach and fed the ducks with Nanny and Granddad, helped feed his little cousins whom he adored, and watered both of his Great-Grandmothers’ gardens. He’s a charmer that’s for sure! He actually sat still on the train watching the scenery go by, and fell asleep in his father’s arms. He chased birds across Greenwich park. (Yes, he has been on the Prime Meridian, told you he was a World Traveller!) He found the food acceptable but I can’t recall him absolutely loving anything.

The biggest downside? Coming back home and wondering, Hey, Where did all those cool people go who entertain me all day?! Also the time change. We’re STILL recovering and Boo is still waking up far too early!
