The boy knows things!

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Boo can count to 2! He goes one, two. He can count to ten with much prompting. It’s all very cute, of course.

More interestly thought is that the boy KNOWS things. It’s so easy to forget that he understands pretty much everything at this point. This morning, I asked H to take out the trash when he left for work. H duly got ready for work, put on his shoes, hugged the boy and myself goodbye, and started to leave when Nathan reminded him to take out the trash! Isn’t that funny? Just amazing!

Zoo!

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

We’ve started a new family tradition — we’ve been going to the zoo at the weekends. Partly this is just because the zoo is cool but also because Boo runs his heart out, gets very, very tired, and takes a nice long nap in the afternoon. Phew!

The animals were in fine form for a crisp, grey Seattle day. Pics are over on the pictures page. Enjoy!

Drawing Shapes

Monday, September 11th, 2006

Boo can draw shapes! Every once in a while we go on a crayon binge. Usually he just scribbles and we draw things for him. Well this past week he’s been scribbling, but then pointing at what he’s drawn and said “blue” if he’s been using the blue crayon, for example.

But today! Today he started drawing shapes. They weren’t perfect, mind you, but they were solidly identifiable as shapes. I would draw a triangle, and he drew a blob with three pointy ends and a definite swoopy flourish where he finished. I would draw a circle, and he would go round and round and it’s definitely a circle! He even tried a square although that was harder.

Boo has been avidly interested in this shape puzzle H got him a while back, and he’s very, very good at it. Only the diamond still gives him any trouble (pesky diamonds!). So clearly drawing them is the next step! Growing in leaps and bounds, I tell you.

So sick…

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

The poor boy has been sick for a few days. Except it’s wierd.. he’s got a hacking, juicy cough at night, just a few during the day. He is visibly not feeling well at night, but is pretty chipper and eating well during the day. He had a low grade fever for a few nights but it seems to be gone now.

We’ve been rubbing on the Vicks Vaporub and feeding him lots of OJ and grapes (apparently good for coughs) and the occasional Tylenol when it seems like he really needs it.

I hope he gets better soon!!
