Imagine Children's Museum

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Today the Boo and I went to the Imagine Children’s Museum in Everett. I’ve been wanting to go there because I had heard that it’s better than the museum in Seattle, plus there’s supposedly a train room. Seeing as that’s the boy’s favorite hobby at the moment, obviously we HAD to go!

It really was a great little museum. Very well laid out, everything was interesting to some level, lots of different things to do. The trains were pretty awesome. The water room was also awesome, as was the ball thing (I don’t know how else to describe it!). Those were the three the Boo focused on. Some things were more geared to older kids — the construction room, for example, required some dexterity and imagination. But otherwise it was a good day’s adventure.

The train room consisted of a model train exhibit, where the kids press buttons to make the trains go (very clever for conserving energy AND entertaining kids at the same time!) and the Boo really loved that. He ran around and around it, pressing buttons and squealing when the train came out of the tunnel. He also loved the play train set, which was especially cool. The wall was built to look like rocks, and the train set had a hole in the middle that the kids could crawl into via tunnels under the train set itself. Very clever, very cool, I just wish it had a wee bit more space! Oh well, it was brilliant. I wonder how many toy trains they go through in a year?

Anyway. This was a great thing to do, although I don’t know how soon we’ll do it again. Everett is actually a bit of a hike — 25 miles, at least 45 minutes. Plus we had to pay admission for both of us, something that really irks me about children’s museums. I’m paying them for my child to play in an admittedly well organized and thoughtful, child-safe area; there ain’t nothing in it for me, folks, other thank being thankful for the diversion! But really I’m glad we did this because it means we’re starting to accomplish some of my goals for this year, which includes going to see at least one new, interesting thing every week. This was it for this week! There are other activites on the list, and we need to pick one for next week! Trains in Snoqualmie and the reptile zoo are both on there, that’s for sure!

We put up a few new photos in the photo section. Below is one that H took and is one of my favorites! It’s not of the Boo, but it is just a great perspective photo:

Cupcakes

We just put up some new pics of the Boo decorating cupcakes! Here are my favs:

We had a good time making the cupcakes, and Boo enjoyed the cupcakes until it got to icing, then he REALLY enjoyed the icing and totally dismissed the cupcakes! Oh well, it was fun anyway :) The boy likes his cupcakes!
