Homemade Playdough

Boo and I did something amazingly fun the other day: homemade playdough! There are about a jillion recipes on the Web if you do a search.. We used the one out of the Toddler’s Busy Book.

This was a ridiculous amount of fun, more than I expected. H had the brilliant idea to take some photos, so here’s a mini-selection of us in our PJs. First up: cooking! Did you know playdough was cooked? I know there are non-cook versions but I thought I’d make the one that lasts the longest, and that involves cooking.

Boo picked out the color: Yellow. He’s still into the reds, oranges and yellows these days. He doesn’t get to help with the cooking a lot, but I’m learning how to let him help safely. Here he’s stirring:

He got really carried away with the food coloring though! When we got to the part where I had to knead the really hot dough (ouch!) he went to wash his hands:

Here’s the dough all kneaded up. Seriously this stuff feels exactly like playdough but smells a LOT better. Color is better too.

And here’s us playing with it. We did some salt dough handprints and footprints for ornaments in December, so now he likes to make prints in playdough too. There’s something about squishing stuff through your toes that is just utterly fascinating!

Fun day, we’ll definitely be doing this again!
