Where the trains go

We discovered “bath crayons” thanks to a Christmas gift from Nanny and Grandad, and the Boo has played with them (and their successors) pretty much constantly ever since. Mostly he draws lines around the tub, or colors in the picture that came in the package, but the other day he drew this:

Well, I did the name, but he drew everything else. It looks like a hodgepodge of lines, but really it’s a map of train tracks.

This is extraordinary because:

  1. Usually the Boo makes you do train tracks properly — two horizontal lines with perpendicular lines between. Since he’s gotten interested in maps he’s willing accept single lines as a visual indicator of train tracks.
  2. He did different colors on purpose.  He sat there telling me that this train track goes this way, and that train track goes that way, and they cross each other here, and you go that way to get back to here, etc. etc. Pretty cool! I hadn’t heard him explain how train tracks really worked before.

I love watching him mature, seeing how his interests change, and listening to his explanations. Kids can be really great sometimes :)
